Sciatica can be a painful and debilitating disorder. It can prevent you from standing, walking, and performing your normal daily functions.
Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes irritated. Pain will typically occur in the buttocks and go down to the back of the knee.
When addressing sciatica it is important to find the originating cause. If the low back is involved, then a disc related issue should be addressed. Sciatica is typically induced by a tight piriformis muscle. This muscle is located approximately in the middle of your buttock. In the majority of people, the sciatic nerve runs under the piriformis, and when that muscle becomes inflamed, it puts pressure on the nerve, causing irritation and distribution of pain down the leg.
At Good 2 Go Chiropractic, we look at finding the cause of your pain down the leg, and focus on giving an accurate diagnosis, with the correct course of treatment. This often involves using soft tissue techniques such as A.R.T. to release the piriformis muscle. Additional exercises and at home activities are also given to give you the best results.
