Tendonitis is a result of repeated stress on a tendon, which then becomes irritated and inflamed. This can be a deep and annoying pain for many people.
Another term you should be familiar with is tendinopathy. While it is common place to use the term tendonitis (or tendinitis) it may in fact be a tendinopathy. A tendinopathy is a tendon injury often caused by long-term overuse and results in a deterioration of the tendon.
Knowing the difference is important to treatment. Inflammation caused by tendonitis may respond quickly to treatment, while a tendinopathy may require more time through a rehabilitative process to strength tissues.
Once we identify the issue, we can use a variety of techniques such as A.R.T., IASTM, manipulations, stretches, and exercises. It all starts with an accurate diagnosis to develop a proper treatment plan.
